Great Wall Motors Commits to Long-term Strategy for Global Competitiveness
Great Wall Motors recently held its annual shareholders meeting at the Haval Technology Center, where it reviewed its outstanding achievements in 2023 and the first quarter of 2024. The company reiterated its commitment to long-termism, high-quality development, and its focus on intelligent new energy vehicles. Great Wall Motors plans to enhance its product lineup continuously, prioritize innovation in categories, technology, and services, and expand its "ecosystem globalization" strategy to strengthen its global market competitiveness.
In 2024, Great Wall Motors aims to leverage its strengths in the pickup and Tank vehicle segments, rapidly introduce key products like the Great Wall Cannon and Tank brand into overseas markets, and target global sales of 500,000 units.
The Great Wall Cannon, a flagship model for the company’s global expansion, has already launched in over 50 countries across four continents. Adhering to a strategy of global R&D, manufacturing, and sharing, the Great Wall Cannon aims to showcase the power of Chinese pickups worldwide.
Showcasing Chinese Pickup Strength in the Global Market
In 2023, Great Wall pickups achieved global sales of 202,330 units, an 8.46% increase year-over-year, with 48,262 units sold overseas, ranking first among Chinese brand exports. As the first Chinese high-end pickup brand to surpass 500,000 units, the Great Wall Cannon has maintained monthly sales of over 10,000 units for 43 consecutive months, consistently leading the Chinese pickup market. With global cumulative sales exceeding 2.58 million units, Great Wall pickups are the only Chinese brand in the "2 Million Club." In the first four months of 2024, overseas sales increased by 23.5%, reaching 15,393 units.
Great Wall pickups have a long history in international markets. In 1997, the first Great Wall Deer pickup was exported to the Middle East, marking the beginning of Chinese automakers' global journey. Over the years, Great Wall pickups have made significant strides: in 2008, 4,500 units were exported to Cuba, setting a record for the largest and most valuable export order by a Chinese automaker at that time; South Africa’s authoritative automotive magazine "BAKKIE&TRUCK" listed Great Wall pickups alongside Toyota and Ford as the "Big Three Pickups"; it became the first Chinese brand to enter the Australian market and the first to receive EU WVTA whole vehicle certification.
For 26 years, Great Wall pickups have competed with top global brands, gaining recognition and favor from overseas users and propelling Chinese pickups onto the world stage. In Australia, the Great Wall Cannon won the "Best Pickup of the Year" award and received a five-star safety rating under ANCAP’s new standards, setting a new record for Chinese pickups’ overseas safety ratings. In South Africa, the Off-Road Cannon won the "Best Pickup of the Year" in the 100-120 kW category, defeating many mainstream international models. In Chile, it won the "Best Pickup of the Year" award just one month after its launch, a prestigious honor known as the "Oscars" of the Chilean automotive industry.
Expanding the Global Footprint
In 2023, Great Wall Cannon continued to strengthen its global presence and enhance its brand competitiveness. In March, the King Kong Cannon was launched in Saudi Arabia, opening a new chapter for Great Wall Cannon in the Middle East. In October, the first Great Wall Cannon rolled off the assembly line at Great Wall Motors' Ecuador CIAUTO factory, marking the start of localized production in South America and a steady expansion of its global footprint.
Achieving Global Popularity for Chinese Pickups
Looking forward, Great Wall Cannon is poised to lead Chinese pickups into a new era of globalization, leveraging Great Wall Motors' "global layout," "R&D investment," "corporate transformation," and "user operations" strategies. The Great Wall Cannon will tailor its product promotions and market development to meet the specific needs of different countries and users, further enhancing brand influence and market share.
With the introduction of Hi4-T new energy technology, the Shanhai Cannon HEV model debuted at the Bangkok Motor Show in March, winning the 2024 Best Commercial HEV Model award. It will soon enter high-potential markets like Australia and South Africa, expanding Great Wall Cannon’s global product matrix and driving the global pickup new energy process.
Aiming to rank among the global top three, Great Wall Cannon is committed to accelerating its global strategy, optimizing its intelligent, high-value product structure, and bringing more green and intelligent products to the world. The company will continue to work with global users to create a new world for pickups.
